Five on Friday

The weeks keep going by so quickly! I can't believe we've been in our new place almost 3 whole weeks now!  I'm loving every second of being here.  It is literally the dream loft I've always wanted :)  Which brings me into number one on my Five on Friday...

{one} Closet makeover: We have one closet in this amazing apartment.  So the washer dryer, all of Dillon's tools, all our traveling gear, extra kitchen stuff, AND all my clothes, shoes, and accessories go in there.  Can you say disaster?  It was until I did a closet makeover this week.  I am now beyond happy with the look.  I'll be sharing the full before and after next week.

{two} Wall:  We are building a wall.  Its freestanding so we can easily get rid of it when we leave, but its going to be made of all repurposed wood, how cool is that?  The wall will divy off some of our living room area.  It will fold down into a bar and behind the wall will be my office!

{three} Souther Doe T:  My new Southerndoe T has arrived!  Hooray!  I have been wearing my coral boot tee almost every other day, so an addition was definitely needed...
{four} Spring Nails:  I don't know why but spring makes me want to attempt nail art.  I guess I think more people will be looking at my hands in spring...?  I'm excited to try one of these designs this weekend (after building the wall of course!)

{five}  Detox Bath:  I finally purchased epson salt this week and I can't wait to try a relaxing detox bath.  I made this bath shelf last year and am hoping to get some use out of it soon.  A bath and a book are the best!

I hope you all have an amazing weekend and I'll see you all next week!

Yooo hooo! I'm over at MakeMeUpMia!

Hi y'all!  Yesterday, my blogger friend Mia stopped by!  She shared a pretty Spring makeup tutorial, with a pop of pink.  Well today... I'm taking over MakeMeUpMia :)  Hop on over to MakeMeUpMia as I guest blog and share out a fun, easy DIY lip balm!

Spring makeup: A Pop of Pink - MakeMeUpMia Guest Post

Hey everyone, I'm Mia and I blog over at MakeMeUpMia. I'm so happy to be here and THANK YOU Taylor for having me!

Today I'm going to be sharing a look with you that is affordable and perfect for spring thanks to a pop of pink on the lips.

It's no secret I love makeup. I also really love saving money. I LOVE it when I find beauty products I like from the drugstore. If I can pay $5 for something over $30, yes please.

I used only drugstore makeup, and I only used 10 products. Cheap + easy! Here is everything I used, products listed below.

Covergirl 3 in 1 Foundation
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
Revlon Colorstay Concealer
Wet n Wild Blush in Pearlescent Pink
Wet n Wild Highlight in Rose Champagne Glow

Wet n Wild Shadow Trio in Walking on Eggshells (bottom color on lid, middle in crease and top for highlight and inner tear duct)
Wet n Wild Palette in Comfort Zone (dark brown in crease)
Milani Brow Fix kit
L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly mascara

Wet n Wild Lipstick in Mauve Outta Here. This lipstick is AWESOME. Beautiful pink and stays on well.

Here's the finished look:

Instagram love, spring calls for a pink lip!

Thanks again Taylor for having me!

What are some of your favorite drugstore products?

DIY: Removing paint from glass

If you've seen some of my tutorials, like my painted mason jars, you'll notice I love acrylic paint and I love to paint old things.  But what happens when I change my mind to a new color scheme or decide to repurpose my mason jars?  Well I remove the paint and re-paint.  I use ammonia for this, so if you have little ones or pets, this may not be the best method for you.  But its just me and my fish, so ammonia is my friend.

What you need:
Large bowl
Old painted glass

Fill up your bowl with ammonia and add your glass.  After about three minutes you are able to just wipe the paint away!  Then wash your glass throughly before reusing.  This is such an easy method that removes the paint fast, and removes it all without scrubbing.  Happy Monday y'all!

Five on Friday

Hooray! Its the weekend!  This week has been a long one... shuffling back and forth between our new home and our old, switching over utilities and cleaning.  I'm sure y'all don't wanna hear about that, so instead lets get to my Five on Friday!  Of course I'm linking up with North Carolina Charm.

{one} Loreal true match lumi:  I typically am not crazy about foundations, but I really love this one.  It goes on so well with my ELF kabuki brush, I just squirt some on the back of my hand and off I go!  I use the color n1-2 for my all over and n-4 for my contour.

{two} Orchata:  We are getting pretty into cocktails lately.  We are typically a craft beer household, but our good friends in Dallas are into making old fashions, 20 year old scotch, infusing liquors, etc.  So when one of those friends introduced me to Orchata I was hooked.  This cinnamon cream rum is the bomb (yes I just called it the bomb).  I just mix a little of this with some coconut milk and its delicious!  This is a great dessert cocktail...

{three} Dove Dry Shampoo:  Lew Party of 2 recommended this dry shampoo a few Fridays ago.  And wow!  Love it.  I was using Tresemme and it wasn't that great, so when I saw this recommendation I "splurged" the three dollars to give it a shot.  This really makes my hair smell great and doesn't give a huge amount of buildup on the scalp

{four} Repurposing:  Since this is "Tattered to Taylored" I do my best to find ways to use old things around the house.  I was throwing away these spice jars and realized I must have something I could use them for...  GLITTER SHAKERS!   My craft glitters were in all different shape containers so this was a great easy repurposing project.  And to remove the names from the bottles, I just used acetone nail polish remover and they wiped right off with a cottonball.

{five} SPRING! I'm sure this will be everywhere this week, but Spring is finally here!  I am so excited to be able to go outside in spring dresses and to get a little spring tan.  I don't have any big spring plans, but maybe something will pop up!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and the weather is great wherever you are!

DIY: Neon Pink Shorts - VOTE!

Hi everyone!  This week has been crazy, we are moved into our loft and most of our stuff is put away.  And now, as expected, the projects around here are getting started... building walls and building bars.  I can't wait to share those projects but in the meantime I have two pairs of neon pink shorts.  Don't ask how I ended up with two pairs, because I'm not very sure.  I'm looking to DIY the one pair into something awesome and can't decide what to do.  So I need your help, vote for one of the three options below.  Whichever option has the most votes by Friday will be a featured DIY, sharing I Tatter to Taylor these neon pink shorts... I've also included the tutorials on how to make the three options below for yourself!

Five on Friday!

This week has been crazy!  We still aren't moved into our loft, but most of our stuff is there... not the best arrangement.  Hopefully we will be done with the big move Saturday morning, leaving me with a relaxing weekend with no big plans.  Anyway, I am celebrating the start of the weekend by linking up with North Carolina Charm for Five on Friday.

{one} Giveaway:  I'm so excited to be giving away one of my hand painted mugs that will soon be available in the Tattered to Taylored Etsy shop.  Of course I'm giving away the all popular cheetah mug!  Entering is easy...

a Rafflecopter giveaway

{two} SUMMER SHANDY: Summer really is coming!! My favorite favorite beer is back on the market.  Summer Shandy by Leinenkugel's is park lemonade, I mean can you really say no to that??

{three} Trader Joe bags:  How are we still moving our stuff?  Oh maybe because we have no boxes and we are moving all our stuff with the same seven Trader Joe bags.  These bags are pretty awesome though...

{four} Ceramic Hair Dryer:  For years, I had been using a regular old Revlon hairdryer.  And for years, I've had super dry damaged hair.  After a recommendation from a hairdresser to try a ceramic ionic hairdryer, I did.  And I can't believe the difference!  I got this hairdryer, the 3100 Absolut Heat, at Marshalls for $20 on clearance, and it is worth every penny.  My hair drys so soft now, it hardly even holds a curl it's so smooth.  I finally have the hair I always wanted.  Note: I do think the new brush I purchased helped as well, this is metal and NOT WOOD!

{five} Lego Movie:  Did you guys see the Lego Movie?  Oh you didn't?  Well you should go.  I am such a kid still and love kid movies anyway, but even the boyfriend liked this!  So go check it out...

Hopefully our move is done this week and I'll be sharing posts from my new place next week... and remember to enter the mug giveaway above!

DIY: Re-blacking your black jeans

I won't lie, I was about to throw these black jeans away.  The black had faded from the dryer and I felt like I was looking quite grundgey in them.  But on the walk to the trash can I realized they fit and looked good, so why don't I just dye them black.  And it worked!  This DIY is easy, cheap, and saves you some money on new black jeans.  I'm going to definitely be re-blacking my leggings and yoga pants as well.

What you need
stock pot
rit dye (powder)

Fill your stock pot 3/4 and turn up the heat!  Once the water is simmering add your packet of rit dye.  Wet your jeans before adding them to the stockpot.  Allow the jeans to simmer for 30 minutes.  (Really, let them stay in there for the whole 30 minutes to get your blackest black)

After the 30 minutes rinse your jeans before putting them in the laundry alone.  Wash on warm and dry if you please.  Your jeans should now be back to black!

Note!  My jeans shrank a little bit but after putting them on they stretched back to their original size.

Recipe: Dairy Free Scalloped Potatoes

Finding completely dairy free recipes that live up to their dairy counterparts is harder than you'd think.  So when I had a hankering for delicious scalloped potatoes, I had to take several recipes and substitute away.  But the result was exactly what I was looking for! These potatoes turned out creamy and delicious, and it was especially nice knowing exactly what was going into them.

What you need:
10 red potatoes sliced
1 white onion sliced
1/3 cup coconut oil
3 cups chicken broth
1/3 cup of flour
paprika, salt, pepper
(you don't need coconut milk, not idea why I put this in the picture)

Preheat to 350.  Slice up your potatoes and onions.  Layer them in a greased baking dish.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  In a sauce pan, melt your coconut oil.  Once the coconut oil is melted, whisk in the flour.  Follow by adding the chicken stock to the saucepan and whisking.  After a few minutes of whisking the sauce will thicken.  Pour the sauce over the potatoes and sprinkle on paprika. Bake for 50 minutes!

These are the BEST substitute for the dairy version.  Even if you just want to eat a little bit healthy try this version.  Coconut oil is great for you and if you get the low sodium chicken broth, well you're on your way!

Hi y'all!  I'm so excited to be launching all these new features 'round here today!  As most of you know I'm moving into an awesome new apartment in a new part of the city.  This change really sprung me into action with Tattered to Taylored.  I now own TatteredtoTaylored.com I've toyed with the idea for quite some time and I was able to purchase the domain for 99 cents.  How could I say no to that?

With me officially owning Tattered to Taylored, I put a lot of time and thought into my new blog design.  I'm easily distracted by glitter and color, but I wanted the real focus to be on my posts, the projects and recipes I'm sharing.  And with that the black, white, and touch of blue color scheme was born!  I don't think I could be anymore happy with it!

I've also (finally) created a blog button, I know I'm a little behind on the times.  This can be grabbed in the sidebar :)  Speaking of sidebars, Tattered to Taylored will now be sponsoring blogs! ) And to start this off right the first three folks who shoot me an email or comment with their button will have their button run for one month, FOR FREE!  Send me an email: TaylorJeavons@gmail.com

And I have one more announcement!  The Tattered to Taylored shop on Etsy is will be opening this week!  After receiving so much interest in my painted coffee mugs I decided to create some specials ones to sell.  Of course my cheetah mug will be available, but are there any other designs you'd love to see??  And to launch the shop I'll be hosting a giveaway later this week!

I love you all and can't thank you for all the support that has been given me over the past 8 months!  Be sure to come back soon for more easy DIYs and recipes!
